Research + Design

I was recently thinking about my senior project at Evergreen in 2014. I wanted to share the project here because I learned so much from the research and design aspects of it.

At the time, I was a new mom and I wanted to make work relevant to me.

I designed prototypes of nursing wear that would make it easier to discreetely nurse in public. I found 3 moms to test my designs and patterned and sewed the garments to their measurements. Each garment was tested daily for functionality, durability and overall ease of use.

At the end of the test period, I talked with each mom and recorded their experience of using the garments in their everyday life.

Woven and knit fabrics were tested as well a 3 different methods of panelling that allowed for nursing with fabric coverage.

The prints on each garment were designed by artist Devin Cogger and fabric was printed with Spoonflower.
