Getting Started
I have been working with textiles since she was a little girl. My first memory of sewing, was an elaborate Christmas stocking kit my Mom got for me. We worked together to finish the stocking. Now, over 20 years later, that stocking still hangs on the mantle during the holidays. By the time I was a teenager, I was making my own clothes and apprenticing at an alterations shop.
I really enjoy learning new techniques and working with new materials. Sometimes I don’t want to purchase new equipment for my current interests, so I will just make it instead. In the gallery image below, I am working on the first of 2 homemade spinning wheels I made in my 20’s.
After high school, I worked with many artisan mentors as I travelled. I learned to spin and dye while working on farms in California. These were great beginnings for me. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life at that point, so having creative mentors really was a game changer for me.
